Last week we had the honor of premiering “Once, Twice,” the first single from Americana singer-songwriter Destinie Lynn. Now we’re pleased to premiere the accompanying music video, available everywhere tomorrow!

Despite being based in Los Angeles, Lynn and her husband, Adam Stutz, didn’t set out to be filmmakers, but they taught themselves and are the creative team behind this video, as well as her first two. “Out here, if I was trying to hire somebody to do an entire music video, that’s thousands of dollars each time and I’m not really up for that,” Lynn said. A marketing coach advised her to learn how to do it herself. “So we got a camera, got equipment, learned Adobe Premiere Pro and figured out what to do by watching YouTube tutorials.”

For “Once, Twice,” Lynn is changing it up. “This is the first one where I decided to actually sing along to video,” she says. “It’s often easier to shoot the footage and lay it over the song versus singing and then syncing up the song, but I wanted to make it visually interesting and different. There’s lots of direct eye contact with the camera.”

Lynn envisioned a series of “visual vignettes” rather than telling a linear story. “It’s things I thought were pretty, not necessarily related to the song,” she says. “One backdrop I have is like an old vaudeville stage, with the red curtains and black background. I love flowers and always find a way to put them in my stuff, so in another I’ve got a huge background of flowers. There’s also an outdoor scene in nature that we used an 8mm type of effect on.”

“Once, Twice” is the first single off Lynn’s upcoming EP, Little Ghost, which is tentatively set to come out October 21. “Because of the title, I thought I might as well release it around Halloween!” she says. But you won’t have to wait that long for more news from this artist. “The title song will be released on September 30, and more music videos will trickle in after that,” Lynn says. “I’m working on merch, and I really want to focus on playing out a lot more because it wasn’t an option for so long.”

While many of her gigs will be local to California, she has a few spots in mind to visit: Knoxville, Birmingham, Portland and Seattle, for starters. “Maybe I’ll put a tour together. But L.A. has enough venues it would take me a while to even get through. I just want to play as much as I can!”
